How To Convert Itunes MP3 to Ringtone

In iTunes you can only create a ringtone from a song if you have bought it from iTunes. If you try to convert it you wil get the error message “A ringtone cannot be created from the following file, You can create iPhone ringtones only from song purchased from the iTunes store”. However there is a trick to convert a song to a ring using only iTunes!

Instructions

  • Right click on the song you want in tunes and select Get Info

  • Click on the Options tab and change the start and end times to the section of the song you want. This cannot exceed 29 seconds (Remember to reset after you have your ringtone!)

  • Click ok to save the time settings
  • Right click on the song again and select Create AAC Version This will create an AAC version with the correct length

  • Right Click on the song again! and select Show in Windows Explorer

  • Change the file extension of the file from .m4a to .m4r

  • Drag this file to the Ringtone section of iTunes

  • Finally Sync your iPod/iPhone
