WARNING These instructions are provided as a guide. If done incorrectly you can permanatly damage your NAS. I am in no way responsible for any data or hardware loss.

BACKUP YOUR DATA The NAS-4220 upgrades without losing data usually. But the boxes are temperamental and a backup is always a good idea.

  • Disconnect the harddrives by disconnecting the SATA cable. (make sure the power is off first and note which cable is which)
  • Download the current firmware 2.6.3.2-20090424* here (click service then firmware) *(at time of writing)
  • The current firmware is only officially support on version 1.2 of the NAS. This can be found printed on the motherboard
  • Set the nas-4220 with the default IP address
  • Upgrade through the web interface, use internet explorer other browsers may cause problems.
DO NOT unplug or shutdown the NAS until it has finished or you will brick your NAS
  • When the NAS has successfully upgraded check the firmware version in the web interface
  • Turn off the NAS and reconnect the harddrives
  • Once powering up the configuration will return to what you had before disconnecting the drives. The data will also be intact.
