Disable IPv6 in Windows 7

This guide shows you how to disable IPv6 on and interface by interface method

Disable IPv6 in Windows 7

  • Open the start menu and type Network and Sharing open the following result

  • Click Change Adaptor Settings

  • Right click the network adaptor you wish to disable IPv6 on and click Properties

  • Untick IPv6 and click OK

You will need to repeat this for other network connections

    Just to let you know, when you uncheck the IPv6 it does not remove it completely. We have been having a problem with our Win 7 PC’s not updating the DNS server with the current IP address when we bring the pc up to the users desk. We build the pc in the PC lab and then then bring it up to the users desk. The pc itself gets a new IP address but for some reason it does not update the DNS server correctly with the new IP addess so you cannot access tha pc via RDP, Ping, etc unless you have the correct IP address of the pc. Doing some research we found that this is a known issue and MS has a “fix” for it under kb 929852. We used the Disable IPv6 except for loopback interface and it is working fine now.
