Disable the Browser Choice Screen in Windows 7
The european users of Windows 7 get the choice to select which browser they would like to use. If you are already using a different browser you may want to disable this screen without the hassle of jumping Microsofts hoops.
- Open the start menu and type regedit in to the search box, then open regedit
- Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\BrowserChoice
- Create a new DWORD value named Enable in the registry. Then give it a value of 0

This was very useful, especially with the pictures. I was getting so fed up with my browser being constantly unpinned from the task bar – I’m quite capable of making this decision for myself! Thanks for helping me disable it!
Yes it worked perfectly. Thanks
Thanks, works as the article says.
Wow – thankyou. I spent ages looking for this – sure people say “just edit the registry to 0″ etc. but that makes very ittle sense to most of us.
This is perfect – and works.
One question though – do I need to do anything with the shortcut entry – REG_DWORD 0×00000001 (1) can I just leave this or should I delete it? Please answer:)
Leave any settings in the registry alone that you are unsure of as you can seriously break you computer.
In the registry 1 is on and 0 is off; a simple binary setting.
