Do you get Error Code 80071392 Using Windows Live Messenger?

When you try to sign in to the Windows Live Messenger Service you may get the following error code:80071392 and message:

“Sorry, we were unable to sign you in to the .NET Messenger Service at this time. Please try again later. 80071392

This is a quick and simple one to fix!

Fix 80071392

  • Click Start -> Run and type (in Vista and 7, Type it into the search box)
ipconfig /flushdns
run ipconfig
  • Next Press the Ctrl+Alt+Delete Keys at the same time and select task manager (if you have the welcome screen)
    (Update) Ryan has pointed out that Ctrl+Shift+Esc open taskmanager directly
  • Or right click the taskbar in an empty space and select task manager from the menu
right click taskmanager
  • This will load Task Manager find msnmsgr.exe, select it and click End Processmessenger logo
  • Now Reload Messenger! Your 80071392 error will be gone.

    If you have a program like “Peer Guardian” running, then turn it off…that was the cause of my problem.

      Good tip, I’ve had that block messenger and steam.

      You can right click a blocked ip and set it to be allowed permanently.
