Do you get Remove csrsc.exe, csrcs.exe or Error Not Found Message?
csrsc.exe is a process know as the W32.Spybot.CF Virus. If you get an error message about this file when booting your computer then go to the “Removing Error Message” Section. Else go to the removal section for removing this pest.
Removal
- Scan your system with a good anti-malware program like MalwareBytes or Kaspersky
- Incase your antivirus misses it remove it manually like below
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shft+Esc) select csrcs.exe or csrsc.exe NOT csrss.exe), and kill the process.
- Go to start, Run then type msconfig in the Run box, and then go to startup tab.
- If there is an entry pointing to the csrcs.exe, untick it.
- Now search the file in the C: drive.
- Delete the file (csrcs.exe or csrsc.exe only) from the computer. Shift and Delete will remove permanently
- Reboot the PC for changes to take place.
Removing Error Message
After removing the virus you may get an error message everytime you reboot your computer. Follow the instructions below to stop this error message
Editing the Registry in the following instructions can render your computer unusable if done wrong. Do not attempt if you are unsure. (I take no responsibility for any problems or loss)
- Backup the registry Microsoft article
- Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\ - On the right side, there is a key named “Shell”,
If it has a value “explorer.exe csrcs.exe”. Just modify it to delete the csrcs.exe from it (not explorer.exe)
- If you removed explorer.exe by accident press (Ctrl+Shft+Esc) after logging in. Open task manager and go to file, new program. Type explorer.exe and run
- Restart the computer
