Shortly after installing Win Essentials security, routine security checks showed Win Defender was OFF. Not by my hand! Attempts to restart it via services failed (got that same cryptic alphanumeric error message) and via the useless Windows Defender popup, a senseless loop where clicking restart it froze the system. After banging my head against the bizarre rabbit warren MSFT calls "Help", finally googled to find some threads saying that the idiots at microsoft apparently disable Win Defender if you install Win Essentials. I haven't verified that, but if true, why the #@*!% couldn't those morons create an error subroutine that pops up a simple message SAYING that instead of generating cryptic error messages. Classic microsoft inanity.

This doesn't always work. The problem comes from the miserable software architecture. If you are patient, wait 10mins and defender (or security essentials) eventually starts. When the system is turned on, defender is turned off and performs an internal system scan. After that, it should enable itself. If it doesn't i.e. if you try to enable it like suggested above, before it is ready with the scan, nothing will happen. When defender or essentials eventually turns on, it first download the latest virus definitions. Just after that, it initiates another scan (no matter if automatic or scheduled scan is turned on or off). During this time, all system resources are used, giving you plenty of time for having some coffees. The whole boot up process until your harddisk is finally silent will take 20 to 30mins, where you can't do anything. So, be patient. That's the price you have to pay for free software.

Comment was "some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programmes"
How do I correct this>
