How to Change the Computer Name in Windows 7
When you buy a new computer from an OEM like Dell. They usually generate the computer name and they are frankly not very useful. Computer names are used more in Windows 7 than previous Windows versions. The computer name is now used when sharing data between systems in the improved “homegroup” feature.
Instructions
- open the start menu and in the search box type
sysdm.cpl
- That will open the “system properties” window, now click change
- Here you can change the computer name and the workgroup (This should be the same on all your computers)
- Your computer will need a reboot
