How To Copy Profile In Windows 7 for Default Domain NETLOGON
In Windows 7 for some reason you cannot use “Copy To” in the profile section. This is very poor and contrary to what Microsoft says. Using this method you can copy your custom profile to another location enabling you to create a netlogon\Default User.v2
How To
- Create you custom profile. Logoff this user and login to another admin account
- Open My Computer and hold down ALT. This will show the file menu. Click Tools then Options.
- Change the Radio Button to: Show Hidden Files
- Uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files
- Now Navigate to:
c:\users
- Rename the Default Folder
- Rename you custom profile to Default
- Now you can use Copy To
- If you are setting up a default domain profile copy the profile to:
\\server\NETLOGON\Default User.v2
- How do "you" set up your windows 7 machines?

I didn’t understand if you are renaming the customized profile to “Default” then what would you need to copy it to. The problem is copying the customized profile to the default user profile. That said, I renamed the custom profile to default and attempted to login. If I was an admin, it worked minus the desktop background. If I was any other domain user, the logon service failed according to a logon error message. Didn’t work. Sorry.

This works but for some reason I keep getting corrupted recycle bin errors from the user I copied as Default. This happens every time I log in as any user who default settings.

Worked like a charm! I had been using the moveuser.exe (part of Server 2003 Resource Kit) program for all my XP machines, but started to sweat when it wouldn’t work for Win7 and the Copy To button was grayed out.
Many thanks!
