How to Disable Adobe Reader from Opening PDF files in your Browser

Adobe Reader by default loads any PDFs clicked on during your browsing, in your web browser. As you here i’m sure your well aware of the slow download times and frequent crashes; that Adobe Reader causes when loading inside Internet Explorer, Firefox or others. Please Read on to change this default behaviour.

  • Open Adobe Reader
  • Click Edit on the Menu bar

  • Then click preferences in the drop down menu

  • Click Internet in the left pane
  • Uncheck Display PDF in Browser and click ok

  • Close your browser for the change to take affect

    Just found this post although I have been using this workaround for a while – Anyone know if you can apply this workaround remotely to domain users EG usig a reg key?

    I have lots of users with this issue and it’s getting a bit tedious working through them all!
