How to Disable Windows Defender in Windows 7

This guide explains how to disable Windows Defender. Windows Defender is now included by default in Windows 7. Running multiple Antivirus/Malware on a computer in realtime can cause problems. It can also slow the computer down. If you have a third party solution you would rather use or just want to disable Defender then read on.

Disable Windows Defender

  • Open the start menu and type services.msc
  • Scroll down to the Windows Defender service and right click

  • Select properties and then change the startup type to Disabled

  • Click Stop and then ok

Disable Action Center Warnings

  • open the start menu and type action center
  • Click on settings in the left hand corner

  • Uncheck Spyware and related protection

  • Save and reboot
