How to Fix “PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, STOP: 0×00000050″ after Windows Update

Included with the updates to Windows XP on the 9th of February was KB977165. This can on some XP machines cause a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). The following error will show:
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Technical Information:
STOP: 0×00000050 (0×80097004, 0×00000001, 0×80515103, 0×00000000)

Fix PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, 0×00000050

• Boot from your Windows XP install disk.
• Open the recovery console. Microsoft Guide – Recovery Console
• In the Recovery console type:

CHDIR $NtUninstallKB977165$\spuninst

• Press enter. Then type this command:

BATCH spuninst.txt

• Press enter. Then type EXIT to reboot your PC

UPDATE: WARNING: Microsoft have blamed this fault on a virus(rootkit). Once you get back in to Windows run a virus scan, Malwarebytes is best.
