How To Fix: Spooler Error Printing from Vista/7 to XP

A common problem when sharing a printer from Windows XP to Vista or Windows 7. Is that the driver for Windows XP isn’t compatible with Vista and 7. This can cause problems and error messages when printing.

Background

  • The problem is that the spoolsv.exe has crashed and will stop all printing. The problem that can be seen is the dll file relating to the driver of the printer.

Solution

  • On the Windows XP computer open the start menu and then click the Printers and Faxes Icon

  • Right Click on the printer that you are sharing and select properties

  • Change to the Advanced tab and Uncheck “Enable Advanced printing features”

  • If that doesn’t work try selecting Print Directly to the Printer
