I've tried the how-to as is. When we restore de sysprep-ed WIM image, we are given this error: windows could not finish configuring the system.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Great guide, but i'm stuck with the following message:
"The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available." when trying to install.
I see a few people have had this but did anyone find the solution? I'm using the same media file the image was installed from. It's a volume licence media install. I have tried modifying ei.cfg.
Please help.

Yes it should be unattend.xml, this has been updated.
The unattend.xml can be placed on the install media but it will ignore the WindowsPE? section of the unattend.xml file I think.
When I was testing the unattend.xml generator I think I added it to the root of the install media.

Thanks, wery informative guide!
Everythin works, exept unattended install, therefor some problem/question. You write: "If you want to use run an unattended installation you can run the following command sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown /unattend:sysprep.xml"
It seem like the name of the file is sysprep.xml.
But later you write: "The unattend.xml will need to be in the sysprep folder)." So first of all: Does the file has to have a speciffic name? You also write: "If you didn’t use the sysprep to include unattend.xml you can also add it directly to the root of the install media.". If that's right, it's wery flexible! As I read it, I can use the same INSATLL.WIM file over and over, and copy a new sysprep.xml (or unattend.xml) to my USB-install-pen. But were do I put it? In the /source folder, or the root? Thanks again. BUR, Denmark

The three activations are for sysprep, i.e. if you update the original image and then sysprep it again.
You can use an install.wim file as many times as you like.

30 gig large - some industrial apps, Office, Oracle etc.- I'm assuming I need to use the same formula to make the drive bootable
But now the problem is sysprep will not reboot, even on the source PC. Apparently it's been a problem for over a year. That combined with 3 activations on an image is a showstopper. I have 8 laptops to deploy and must be all deployed identical.

please ignore my post..
i just realized that i did copy the wim file but not to the correct spot.. it did work just fine, but i do still have a question. when i boot the usb device, it boots into the setup screen (language/timeandcurrency/keyboard), then next to install screen, setup is starting into license screen, next to upgrade or custon screen of which you must select custom. Then the where to install disk screen show up / (allows to delete old disk..etc.. and then after you next there, your unattended that you create during sysprep takes over. I was under the impression, that the unattended.xml file would work from the boot process...any thoughts....
