How to Remove Thumbs.db from Windows XP
Thumbs.db is a file in Windows XP that is designed to speed up the loading of thumbnails of pictures and videos. Each time you load My Computer in the thumbnail or filmstrip view XP uses this file to speed up thumbnail loading. A hidden system file but can be transferred by FTP or ZIP making it an annoying addition.
Remove Thumbs.db
- Open a folder window or double click My Computer
- Click tools then folder options
- click view then do not cache thumbnails
In Windows 7 the option has changed to Always show icons, never thumbnails
