Outlook Printing Error (KB969897 and MSIA)

I came across a problem the other day with outlook refusing to print emails. Clicking on the print button did not bring up a dialog box but showed an internet explorer error similar to the desktop recovery error. It would print when the email was open in the preview pane and using the quick print icon. I checked the settings event logs but no errors.

Background

I removed the last updates that had been installed (2 Days previous) this allowed Outlook after a restart to print as normal. Fast forward two days and I came up against the same problem. Not wanting to remove updates again that were working fine I went on a search.

On google groups I found this post Here. The problem update is KB969897, removing this and uninstalling Microsoft Software Inventory Analyzer (MSIA) Resolved this issue.

Instructions

• Remove KB969897
• Remove MSIA
• Reinstall KB969897
• Microsoft is supposed to be releasing an updated version of MSIA soon

Other

Another method that is floating around on the internet is to remove the .DLG File association in explorer. I have not tried this however. Let me know if this works for you.
