Update your EEE PC Bios from a USB Drive – A Guide
After looking for a guide on how to update your EEE pc BIOS I found the information a bit lacking. Most were guides on how to update from linux. So here is my guide how to update from a USB key using Windows
Instructions
- First you need to find your EEE pc version, Then go to the Asus website and download the latest BIOS
- Format your USB stick in “FAT16″ or in Windows Just “FAT” DO NOT FORMAT IN “FAT32″ or it will freeze reading the BIOS file
- Extract and rename the BIOS file to “XXXX.BIN” where XXXX is your model number like 1000 or 1000HA(It must be in capitals)
- Copy this to your USB stick in the root of the drive
- Reboot your EEE and hold the “ALT” key and tap “F2″
- Be sure the battery is fully charged, and the power adapter plugged in before starting the BIOS update
- The EEE will search the USB drive, find the update and program the BIOS
- DON’T REBOOT OR UNPLUG ONCE THE BIOS HAS COMPLETED READING THE BIOS FILE
- If the updater won’t read the file check you are using FAT16 not FAT32 or NTFS!

Thanks this is very precise. I did not see any help from Asus support page about this….
Hello,
Did you rename the BIOS file to 1000HA.BIN or 1000HA.ROM.
I notice in the text he says to rename “XXXX.BIN” but in the screen shot is says reading “900A.ROM”. I am wondering which is right. Thanks!
Thank you so much. I successfully updated the BIOS using these instructions. As Leonardo mentioned, I renamed the BIOS file to 1005HA.ROM instead of 1005HA.BIN
