How to Disable Auto Renewal for Xbox Live

Xbox live is a great service but if you add your credit card it will keep charging it for your package when you renew. You cannot remove your credit card information. But you can tell it to stop auto renewing and then you can revert to Xbox Live Silver or Redeeming codes.

Disable Auto Renew

NOTICE: In some locals such as the UK and Canada; Microsoft have disabled this link. The only way is to call Microsoft directly.

Just to confirm that in the UK its a sodding con… there’s no option whatsoever to cancel the automatic renewal via the xbox.com site. You then have to find a UK telephone number to ring them to get them to cancel it, and when i did it i was told, “there system was down so they couldn’t do it”. Now, it may well have been down, but according to their own site, everything was up and running… total con by Microsoft, and you also can’t remove your existing credit card details that are linked to your xbox live account, unless you replace them with another card… way to go Microsoft on how to piss UK customers off!

Was told exactly the same thing when I called them, when I started getting a bit pushy with the operator low and behold the system was miraculously fixed! It’s their loss because I will never submit card details for anything XBOX related ever again.

        Update on my previous post:

I phoned MS back yesterday and after waiting 5 minutes on hold I got through to a nice lady who actioned my automatic renewal cancellation straight away. On the whole took maybe 10 minutes and I was happy that I could actually see on my xbox.com the change had occurred.

I was however, unhappy at the call clarity, I think when you ring the UK number it transfers to USA (just my gut instinct, no proof as such), hence why the line quality is soo bad.

    SWEET!

15mins on the fone finally got it disabled. Dudes i got a nugget of info at the same time 4u. If you cannot click the “OFF” in the membership level menu where it says “Automatic renewal: OFF” basically ring them up -OR- add a redeem code for a subscription as this will automatically knock off your auto renewal and wont reactivate after the redeem runs out, it will simply switch your acount to silver. Handy to know!

@ Luke Smith: sign into xboxlive. com on the right where it says MyXbox click the down arrow, My Account – Membership Level – hope this helps, Peace!!

Wow…Microsoft are really a bunch of cunning jerks…I think it is pretty darn sick that they make these things so much like a trap…It would be like a dairy owner hiding the exit of his shop so you cant escape!
